Research carried out by the different teams involved in TELMA globally concerns the design, development and use of ICT tools for mathematics education. Under this unifying umbrella, the research areas and goals of the different groups are quite diverse. In spite of this diversity, one common characteristic is that TELMA teams research has both epistemic and pragmatic goals. Epistemic goals contribute to the understanding of learning and teaching processes in ICT environments, and to the understanding of the theoretical and methodological advances in the field. Pragmatic goals produce tools offering a real potential for mathematical learning and teaching, and didactic designs which operationalise this potential.
